The Philippine government on Wednesday renewed its urgent and firm call on all Filipinos to leave Yemen immediately due to the unstable political and security situation in the country.
So far, only four out of the estimated 728 registered Filipinos in Yemen have been repatriated with tickets provided by the Philippine Embassy in Sana’a, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
The DFA said Philippine embassy representatives met recently with the Filipino community to reiterate the call for all Filipinos to immediately leave Yemen in view of the Alert Level 4 status (Mandatory Repatriation) raised over the troubled country last February 19.
Led by Consul Winston Dean S. Almeda and Attaché Camaloddin P. Manggis, the team also explained the details of the repatriation procedures for 93 Filipinos, and a handful of foreign spouses, in Sana’a.
The meeting was arranged by leaders of The Filipino Community in Yemen (TFCY), the main Filipino community organization in Yemen, based in Sanaa, it said.
The DFA said Filipinos who require the assistance for their repatriation are advised to contact the Philippine embassy team in Sana’a, secure a “No Objection Certificate” (NOC) from the sponsor of his/her entry visa or working visa and have the sponsor / employer arrange the exit visa from the concerned authorities.
Likewise, Filipinos are advised to bring their original Philippine Passport and NOC to the embassy’s team currently headquartered at Movenpick Hotel.
The DFA said passports of those for repatriation with expired validity will be extended gratis.
Filipinos whose passports have been lost are advised to bring two copies of ID-size photos for gratis issuance of Philippine Travel Documents and proof of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) membership if applicable.
They would then have to await advice from the embassy on further procedures or arrangements for repatriation, the DFA stressed.
